Restrictions

Apple Configurator allows you to set restrictions for your iPad devices to keep them more secure within the classroom. These settings are option, but also recommended.  Play with the settings on one device to see how they fit within your campus, before you deploy them everywhere.  You can select just one iPad from the cart or you can use the regular iPad cable and not connect the cart to the USB port, but just one device.

  1. Open Apple Configurator
  2. Click the Supervise button in the top banner
  3. Click the plus gin under profiles
  4. Click Create New Profile
  5. Under name: School Name Restrictions (EX: Bass Restrictions)
  6. Click on Restrictions on the left then click Configure
  7. From here you can choose what to allow and disallow.  You are able to turn things off like:
  •  iMessage
  • YouTube
  • iBooks
  • iTunes Store
  • Camera

If you choose to check the box "Installing Apps," prior to updating the devices in the future you will need to uncheck the restrictions profile to remove the restriction and then recheck it after you sync Apps. This stops the students from logging into their own Apple ID and installing Apps.

  1. Click Save
  2. Then check the box to enable the profile
  3. Click refresh to apply the setting to the device

Restrictions can be a very useful tool to maintain control over the devices.  You can simply uncheck the box "Allow Modifying account settings (supervised only)" to disallow students from entering in their own email settings and Apple ID on to the device.

Happy iPading and remember your iOS support team is here for you!

Hey, I follow the steps and it's still not allowing me to download the apps! Any suggestions?
