MacBook Solution
Many schools in CPS manage their iPad deployments using Apple Configurator on either the MacBook Pro or MacBook Air.  Both laptops are great tools for device management.

If you experience any issues updating your Mac, please contact the ITS Service Desk immediately to open a ticket.

Please be aware that some Mac computers will experience errors when attempting to upgrade or supervise their iPads with Apple Configurator; this is due to additional system requirements associated with the iOS 10 release.

Common CPS Macbook Issues

User can't install Casper "the source is from an unidentified developer"
Solution: right click or control-click on the Casper package and select Open from the drop down menu. This will allow you to install the package.

User is Prompted Multiple Times for Keychain Password
Solution: The keychain password has corrupted. No passwords will work, even previously entered ones or root passwords. Please follow the steps below:
  1. Go to Applications -> Utilities
  2. Double Click Keychain Access
  3. At the top right enter Chrome into the search field
  4. Its not guaranteed anything will appear if not see 6 below
  5. If something does come up in the search delete the entries by selecting them at the bottom right and hit the Delete key
  6. If not entries are found select the login keychain at the top left
  7. Go to the Edit menu and select delete
  8. Restart the computer
  9. On restart the user will be prompted to either restore or create a new keychain, select create. Be aware this will delete saved passwords on the system, however once the password for a keychain corrupts it is gone. The user either has to delete the keychain or live with the prompts.

Mac gives the error "The Wi-Fi network CPS could not be joined."
Solution: The Macintosh has an old certificate for the SSID in question. Follow these steps:
  1. Log in as Administrator
  2. Navigate to the schools Compliance site (school short name-adm01.cps.k12.il.us)
  3. Authenticate into the Compliance site then go to the Mac Tools page
  4. At the bottom of the page click the WiFi Refresh link to download the installer
  5. Once the download is complete close the browser
  6. Navigate to the user's Downloads folder and double click on the WiFi Refresh package
  7. This installer will uninstall Casper and reset the system's network preferences. The user will be prompted for an administrator password at least once
  8. Once the package completes Go to the WiFi dropdown in the tool bar and select CPS
  9. If the user is still prompted for credentials or the system cannot connect to the CPS SSID proceed with the manual processby contacting the service desk

The user is prompted for a keychain password but no password works
Solution: Utilize the following prices to resolve this issue. Note that this process will erase saved password at the OS level, but not in the browser:
  1. Log in to the account having the issue
  2. Double click the Macintosh HD icon to open
  3. Double click the Applications directory to open
  4. Double click the Utilities directory to open
  5. Look for Keychain Access and double click to launch application
  6. Once the application launches look for the login keychain in the left pane
  7. Select the login keychain by clicking on it once
  8. At the top select the Edit menu then select Delete
  9. In the pop up window select Delete References and Files
  10. Once done close Keychain Access and log out of the account
  11. Log back into the account and select Create new login keychain when prompted
  12. The error should not return. If it persists get the serial number of the system and refer a ticket to ITS-Macs
