Resources for TechCos and Teachers
Throughout the year TechCos and Teachers have opportunities to go to professional development to learn new ways to incorporate technology into curriculum in meaningful ways, and/or how to manage devices more efficiently.

Sometimes, you can't make it to those events, so, if you missed them....here are some valuable resources.

*** Key Articles
********************************************************************************
  1. Active vs Passive use of Technology: Students do not spend much time in school actively practicing the higher-level technology skills needed for job readiness.  More than half, 60%, of classroom technology use is passive (e.g., watching videos, reading websites). While only 32% of classroom technology use is active (e.g., coding, producing videos, performing data analysis), which requires students to practice the higher-level technology skills that are required for many jobs. Source: https://www.pwc.com/us/en/about-us/corporate-responsibility/library/preparing-students-for-technology-jobs.html
  2. The Science of Drawing and Memory: The researchers also suggest that drawing results in better recall because of how the information is encoded in memory. When a student draws a concept, they “must elaborate on its meaning and semantic features, engage in the actual hand movements needed for drawing (motor action), and visually inspect [the] created picture (pictorial processing).” https://www.edutopia.org/article/science-drawing-and-memory
  3. Critical vs Supplemental: The majority of leaders (57 percent) report that digital technologies are an important supplemental resource used to personalize the learning experience based on each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and preferences. Relatively few (16 percent) say such technologies are central to their mission or that they do not use them at all (3 percent).  Source: https://www.edweek.org/media/school-leaders-and-technology-education-week-research.pdf

*** Apple Education - Ideas for Teaching and Learning Updates
********************************************************************************

Here are some ideas from Apple Teacher ideas that can help you create engaging lessons with Apple technology.
  • Create an Interactive Book (Any Age) - You can create interactive books featuring image galleries, video, audio, and more using a variety of book templates in Pages. Share your book with others to add to their Apple Books library, where they can keep it as a reference. Also, students and teacher can make a digital portfolio of their class projects to share with parents and students at the end of the year. Collect and add writing, photos, videos, recordings, and drawings. Example: Why Use Pages in the Classroom?

  • Create a Graphic Organizer (Any Age) - With Pages, you can create a graphic organizer that shows how all the pieces of a learning experience fit together. Combine shapes, photos, text, and drawings to outline the flow of a brainstorming session. Build a visual timeline. Use shapes, photos, drawings, and labels to identify important events and illustrate how a project develops over time.

  • Symbolize data with shapes (Any Age) - Numbers includes hundreds of shapes that you can color, customize, and combine however you like. Use shapes to represent complex processes, build a timeline of events, or show a summary of your results. Create a collage to build vocabulary skills. Choose from everyday animals and objects, then double-tap to type their names.
